Alteristic!
by Kalkidan Gossaye, Senior Vice President
It’s an exciting time for us! As you may have noticed, Green Dot, etc. has undergone an amazing transformation over the last few months.
It’s with a combination of earnest excitement and humble gratitude (and, let’s be honest, a bit of trepidation) that we reveal to you our new identity. Alteristic is the new name for Green Dot, etc!
Green Dot remains a fundamental part of our work, and we will retain all Green Dot programs –and Green Dot brand – going forward. Our organization was established in 2010 with an initial goal of training colleges and universities in the Green Dot program to reduce sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. In the past six years we have trained at more than 450 colleges and universities across the country. Meanwhile, our work has expanded to include development and implementation of prevention programs in high schools, middle schools, and communities.
In addition, our strategy has been applied statewide in states from Alaska to Florida, and our prevention principles are informing prevention at the national level (we are writing the prevention approaches for the Department of Justice Office on Violence against Women campus program, the Department of Defense, and the United States Air Force). And our programs have also been implemented in the Navy, Army, and National Guard and Reserve units. We regularly consult with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the White House, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and state governments.
Because the principles and research behind Green Dot are effective in addressing power-based personal violence, we are also being asked to apply the framework to other forms of violence including self-directed violence (suicide) and workplace harassment (including harassment based on sex, race, and power). Check out the features on the website about Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc., and Tales of the Cocktail!
While retaining our proud roots and accomplishments as Green Dot etc., our new name and identity also highlight these areas of significant growth and the diversity of our activities. Today, we are working with various communities and organizations on prevention: some want the Green Dot program, some need program consultation or strategic planning, while others are requesting specific programs built or adapted for them. We are partnering with various communities on the prevention of sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking, suicide, and other issues. We continue to provide individuals, organizations, and communities with well-researched, innovative, comprehensive, and ongoing programs, training, and support to significantly reduce and prevent power-based personal violence.
Alteristic is on a mission to mobilize communities by harnessing the power of individual actions to create safe societies.
